Living Things and Their Habitats
English
Our stimulus for our suspense narrative writing in Summer 1 will be Beowulf. Our Grammar focus for the term will be on narrative tenses and expanded noun phrases to add detail. Learning to edit and handwriting will play a crucial role in this too.
Pupils should continue to use Bedrock at least twice a week at home to support with their vocabulary - it is also our aim to access this resource daily in school.

Guided Reading - Reading for Inference
We will use a variety to texts - both fiction and non-fiction texts - to enable us to apply our learning to a range of question types, and to make links between different books and our own growing general knowledge in Science and Humanities in particular. We will continue to use text annotation as a method of exploring a text, and will build on our retrieval and inference reading skills. Maths
This term we will be learning about Shape, Position and Direction, and continuing our learning on Decimals. We will be using Number and Lightning as the basis of our knowledge to support our arithmetic skills. Pupils will be taught operations in depth and will be tasked with using these in a variety of different contexts.

Science
Our Science learning in Summer 1 focuses on the lifecycle of a range of different animals and compares their lifecycles with that of humans.

History: The round city: Baghdad
We will continue our journey through Ancient history as our learning takes us to Baghdad. We will learn about the city’s origins, finding out when it was built and why the location was chosen. We will discover that ancient Baghdad was a city of books and learning with the intriguingly-named ‘House of Wisdom’.

Geography: Why is California so thirsty?
In Geography this term, we will be learning about why California is so dry. We will investigate the importance of water for California’s agriculture industry, and consider the future for this ‘thirsty’ state.

R.E.
Our R.E. learning this term will focus on exploring a new Big Question: What kind of king is Jesus? We will make connections between biblical text, and consider different possible meanings for those texts. We will make clear connections between belief in the Kingdom of God and how Christians put their beliefs into practice in different ways.

P.E.
We will have all of our PE lessons outdoors in Summer 1 and 2. This term, we will be playing Rounders, so learning to work as a team will be key. We will develop essential ball skills of throwing and catching. Our other focus is Athletics, which will support our Rounders ability and agility too! In Athletics, we will work on developing our speed, stamina, agility and reflexes when running, throwing and jumping.
