Writing
Fiction – Warning Tale – Kassim and the Greedy Dragon
We will be learning the story of Kassim and the Greedy Dragon, and exploring the features the author has used and the effect they have. We will then learn how to write our own similar warning tale, which will include suspense.
Non-fiction – Non-chronological report – The Stone Age
We will be exploring what makes a good non-chronological report and the features that it should include, before writing our own non-chronological report about the Stone Age.
Reading
We will explore a range of texts linked to our units of learning, by using our Reading for Inference skills. We will continue to develop our technique of answering written comprehension questions about a range of texts.

Maths - Time, statistics, position and direction
We will learn to tell the time to the hour, half hour, 5 minutes, quarter past and quarter to, as well as learning how many minutes are in an hour and how many hours are in a day. We will also find and compare durations of time and solve different problems involving time. We will learn how to interpret and make tally charts, tables, block diagrams, and pictograms. We will describe position, movement and turns, in addition to identifying shape patterns with turns.

Design and Technology – Templates and Joining Techniques – Weaving Stone age clothes
We will design, make and evaluate a stone age item by investigating fabrics, how to join them together and how to use some finishing techniques to complete the product.

History – the Bronze Age and the Iron Age
We will learn who the Amesbury Archer was by exploring archaelogical evidence to investigate the Bronze Age, as well as discovering how the bronze changed life in the Stone Age. We will then learn how trade changed the Iron Age and compare the similarities and differences between settlements in the Neolithic and Iron Age.

Computing – Programming 1: Algorithms and debugging
We will learn what algorithms are, how to program them and how we can use loops to make our algorithm more efficient. We will do this using a combination of unplugged and plugged-in activities. The activities included as part of this learning include maps, debugging and dinosaur algorithms.

Art – Craft and design: Map it out
We will use a design brief to create a piece of art that represents our local area, using a map as our starting point. We will learn three techniques for working creatively with materials (felt making, recreating stained glass effects and adapting simple tile prints) and at the end of the project, we will evaluate our design ideas, choosing the best to meet the design brief.

PE – Athletics
Athletics - We will focus on throwing with accuracy and power when throwing a vortex or shotput. We will also learn how to apply the running techniques we have learnt in Year 2 to compete in relay races and participate in team games.
